Top Model of Colour 2011Season 6My name is Blessing Boyega one of the 22 female finalists going through to the final due to take place at the opulent and luxurious Porchester Hall, on the Saturday 3rd December 2011.As an aspiring model this is a fantastic opportunity for me to gain valuable experience within the industry, and as you can imagine I am extremely excited to be 1 of the 22 out of 3000 plus entries.Coming from a family where education is important and modelling wasn’t, I went to university and studied financial services. I didn’t feel complete as modelling is my passion but I felt I owed it to my parents who brought me to UK from Nigeria to have a better life. During my last year at university I decided I wanted to follow my dreams and started modelling part-time building up my portfolio, getting into beauty, editorial, commercial and high fashion modelling. I completed my studies and at the same time was doing what I really wanted to as I didn’t want to regret later for not doing something about it.I use to find it hard expressing myself and talking to others, being quite and never speaking much. I wanted to change that and this was another reason for me to pursue modelling in 2010. Through modelling I am able to express myself more and feel confident in myself as a strong black young woman. I believe modelling has been a bonus added to my education, I feel that now that I have started following my dreams, I will always have it at the back of my mind that I didn’t give up and did something about making my dreams come true.
I didn’t want to model because of my looks alone, so worked hard to get into cat walking in fashion shows, being 5ft5 made it hard and at times I felt to give up but I was encouraged by the determination of my bro who worked hard at being an actor. Being the youngest he had a strong mentality and believed he could achieve anything he set his mind to do. I was inspired by his courage and entered the TMC competition. This is just the beginning for me. My parents named me Blessing for a reason and I want to live up to it, not only being a blessing to them but to others.
