Chanel have left their signature double quilting stitching behind for their new androgynous ‘Boy Bag’ collection due to be released this August. The bold and clean lined bag is reminiscent of the classic 2.55 bag, however this collection has played up to the boyish attitude with a noticeable influence from a hunting cartridge style bag. The calfskin collection comes in red, grey and ivory, and is available in three sizes, with the smallest piece being a purse and the tote bag being the largest.
The mannish features of the new collection are quite apparent with the heavy duty push fastening and chunkier and heavier metal strap designed to allow the bag to be worn across the body or simply dangle from one shoulder. The Chanel embossed logo on the ‘spine’ of the bag is another key feature which uniquely lends itself to that of a book. We would have it in our library in a heart beat! Karl Lagerfeld has commented on the collection stating, “Chanel used men’s underwear to make dresses; she had this boyish attitude, in fact it is the very spirit of Chanel. She got it from Boy Capel, the great love of her life, which, incidentally, explains why the new bag is called the Boy Chanel.” So intended to appeal to our androgynous sides it steps away from the feminine feel and we can see it becoming the new ‘It’ bag in no time.
