Former Apple boss and legend Steve Jobs has died aged 56, the company announced today.
Apple announced his death on its website, saying the company had lost a "visionary and creative genius and the world has lost an amazing human being".
It said he had left behind a company that only he could have founded.
Jobs resigned as CEO in August ending his 14-year reign at the technology giant he co-founded in a garage which brought the world the iPod and the iPhone.
The 56-year-old Apple co-founder had fought and survived a rare form of pancreatic cancer and fought various health problems.
The company statement on its website, under the heading "Steve Jobs 1955-2011", said: "Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor."
