According to Page Six, Gaga attended a news conference in Japan three months after the country was devastated by a massive tsunami in 2011. She used a teacup — which had the phrase “we pray for Japan” on the side — and a matching saucer during the conference. She told reporters that she’d auction them off to raise money for disaster relief, and left a red lipstick mark and autograph on the side of the cup.
After a weeklong auction on Yahoo Japan, the teacup and saucer set were sold for $75,137.50. However, it was only the second most expensive item in the auction, the priciest being a crystal piano used by a Japanese rock star.
