The streets teemed with creativity, rhythm and bass for One Hackney Festival on Saturday, 21 June.
The colourful procession featured over 1,500 performers from local carnival groups and as far afield as Rio in Brazil.
The event, which has been a year in the planning, was the first of a series held in the borough on 21 July to welcome the Olympic Torch to Hackney and celebrate the start of the London 2012 Games.
Cllr Jonathan McShane, Cabinet Member for Health, Social Care and Culture, said: "It's incredible. We've been preparing for this for five years and finally the Olympics have come to Hackney. People from virtually every country in the world live in Hackney and they are all represented here on the parade."
Carnival groups from Hackney and Rio - the next Olympic host city - danced their way along the 2.8 mile route from Shoreditch to Stoke Newington, via Hoxton and Dalston, alongside 15 spectacular floats.
