The Queen was said to be in "good health and good spirits" today after being admitted to hospital suffering from gastroenteritis.
The 86-year-old is expected to remain in the King Edward VII hospital for two days while doctors treat her for the stomach bug.
A spokesman for the Queen said she was in "good spirits" and was otherwise in "good health" besides the symptoms of gastroenteritis.
He said: "This is a precautionary measure.
"She was not taken into hospital immediately after feeling the symptoms.
"This is simply to enable doctors to better assess her."
Buckingham Palace said that all official engagements for this week will be either postponed or cancelled as a precaution.
On Friday the Queen took the rare step of cancelling a public engagement as royal aides announced she was suffering from the illness.
The monarch had been due to visit Swansea yesterday to present St David’s Day leeks to soldiers but was forced to pull out and rest instead.
