A drunken Manchester United fan felt his side's woeful penalty shoot-out against Sunderland was enough of an emergency to warrant a 999 call - demanding to speak to Sir Alex Ferguson.

Police in North Manchester took the call at about 10.30pm on Wednesday night, in the wake of Man Utd crashing out of the Capital One Cup at Old Trafford.
Officers may have seemed sympathetic to the sentiment behind the call, but they also warned that the 999 number is not to be abused.
"Obviously, it can be a sad and depressing moment when your football team loses a game, however can we all please remember that 999 is to be used for emergencies only," they posted on Facebook.
"If you would like to speak to Sir Alex about recent football results, we here at GMP Manchester North can only suggest you try ringing Manchester United FC directly as you will probably (not definitely) have a much better chance of getting through to him there rather than ringing the police."

United fans had little to feel cheerful about following the disastrous penalty-taking, with only Darren Fletcher managing to score for their dejected side.
In fact, of the 10 penalties taken, only three found their target.
Social media networks quickly lit up with a mixture of disappointment, anger and amusement. And, of course, jokes about incoming United signing Juan Mata.
Many expected a swift u-turn by the Chelsea star en route to Old Trafford - others advised that his helicopter should still be watching out for that Phil Jones penalty.
