IT'S A song about toasting independence, girl power and freedom, therefore it is no surprise why Beyonce's hit song Single Ladies has topped the top ten break-up songs of all time.
The former Destiny's Child star beat off Gloria Gaynor’s I Will Survive to be named the No.1 go-to song when a relationship came to an end, according to a new poll by mobileslots.com.
In the chorus, the married mother-of-two sings: "Cause if you liked it, then you should have put a ring on it, don't be mad once you see that he want it, 'cause if you liked it, then you shoulda put a ring on it."
Many respondents admitted that, “if you liked it then you should have put a ring on it” was their favourite line from the well-known single.
One respondent said: “I had to vote for Beyoncé’s Single Ladies. As soon as I dumped my boyfriend, I put it on full blast and danced around my room.
“It’s such an empowering song and I can definitely relate to the lyrics, if he liked me that much then he should have put a ring on it. Now I’m free to do what I want.”
Boys II Men took third spot with End Of The Road as 16 per cent of respondents admitted the deep and sentimental lyrics made it the best song to listen after a relationship ended.
Legendary break-up song I Will Always Love You sung by Whitney Houston proved popular amongst 13 per cent of respondents.
A spokesperson for mobileslots.com said: “When a relationship breaks down, it’s not always easy to bounce back from it. One thing a lot of people do is to listen to songs to pick themselves up and make them feel good.
“All of the songs in the list are absolute classics in their own right and deserve to have made the top ten. Single Ladies topping the poll is great, it’s a feel good tune and a lot of women look up to Beyoncé as a role model.”
